Why Self Love Is So Important

Self Love is a concept that wasn’t around when I was young…in fact, if you showed any measure of appreciation for yourself and a sense of worth, you would likely have aroused disdain from friends and family…being criticized of “loving yourself too much”. Oh boy, it sounds ridiculous now, because the modern, new age thinking has realised that loving yourself is in fact exactly what is required in order to grow healthy emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
Certain segments of society have grown in the spiritual understanding over the last 30+ years of who we are and what life is really all about – yet there are still very few people who really embrace the concept of self love, and its vital role in the lives we live! I see it every day, in every client, that we are still not really getting the importance of it.
People are struggling with the identity that they have adopted, based on the internalisation of who society, their parents and family, institutions and the world around them has conditioned them to be.
Those of us who have come to understand our earthly existence from a deeper perspective, have realised there is something fundamentally wrong with the old outdated concepts of society. Like “we are just a body”, “our feelings and emotions need to be denied”, or “if you can’t see it, it doesn’t exist”. A large percentage of the world believes there is simply no validation or evidence that we go beyond a body, or if we do, its fairly irrelevant - this is evident when it comes to allopathic medicine and our general healthcare system – so, for many of us, it has been a challenge to say the least. We are taught that we aren't much, and we need to deny parts of ourselves in order to "fit the mould" of who society says we should be. This concept betrays our own value and worth.
Luckily, large fragments of society have finally awakened to the realisation that most of us are carrying around unresolved trauma from our childhoods, that are having lasting affects on our psyche, and yes, manifesting the illnesses in our bodies. I help people every day release trauma, and befriend their unconscious mind, so they can retrain their inner mind to recognise their own true worth. Even modern research is finally realising our collective understanding has been lacking, and they are beginning to dive into new perspectives, such as neuroscience, where it is finally linking behavior to trauma.
This is why self love, and coming to understand your true worth is so, so, so important! You are the most important person in your life! This is the very thing society has tried to hide from us - that we are worthy and amazing.
In my sessions, I take my clients through an exercise to aquaint themselves with their authentic self, so they can begin to unlock the understanding of their real value and worth, and the act and recognition of Self Love in that process. This is the beginning…where you can begin to create the life you truly deserve.
